Venice is a beautiful city, the most beautiful city I have visited anyway. Venice is a victim of it’s own success during certain times of the year certain parts of the city are overrun with tourists from cruise ships and day trippers. Over the last few visits I have tried to stay off the beaten path, I stay in a quiet apartment in the Castello district near the Arsenale. This visit we by-passed the popular St Marks Square and Realto bridge during the day and only visited during the evening where they had taken a magical atmosphere.

We spent most of our time wondering the quieter canals of the Cannaregio, Ghetto and Dorsoduro areas where even during the middle of the day there were a lot fewer people about.

Lake Garda is a short train trip away, a direct train from Venice only takes about an hour and half.

All photographs of Venice on this page were taken on a Nikon Z6 and 24-70 lens.
