New York City 2011
Today I spent several glorious hours in New York City. Perfect temperature for walking about luckily, because I did a lot of it.

Some images from a trip to Princeton New Jersey. All photos taken on Nikon D7000, Sigma 10-20mm and Nikkor 24-120mm.
Captured this photograph in woodland whilst testing out a Nikon D7000.
Whilst photographing a wedding last month, I saw this in my view finder and fell to the ground for a good angle to take the photograph. Whilst the photo is not techically brilliant, it gives off a ‘feel good’ factor (for me anyway). It also records a summer scene, there have been too few opportunties for summer shots this year, apparently this is the worst summer in 18 years.
I was delighted when MacMillan books contacted me to use this image as the front cover of a new fiction title.
The book in question is called ‘After the Snow’ by the author S.D Crockett. It tells the story of boy in a winter that never ends.
Sometimes the weather is just not conducive for landscape photography as I discovered on a recent trip to the Kent coastline, the flat lighting and dull grey sky would undoubtedly lead to dull pictures.
To prevent myself packing up my gear and going home, I decided to experiment with long exposures to see if anything could be salvaged from the day. Unfortunately the weather also conspired against me, with rain blowing into the front of my camera which meant only five images were captured during the day.
St Margret’s bay.
Often when I take a picture, I know whether I am taking it in colour or monochrome I wasn’t sure on this one so I have included both versions.
I often walk past these derelict buildings in woods near Henley on Thames which made a good subject for these monochrome images. I have often wondered what they were many years ago, perhaps an old army camp from the war, whatever they were the buildings are now slowly returning to nature. Having recently done some research on the internet, I discovered that these buildings were probably part of the Bishopswood Camp which was setup during WWII to house evacuated school children from busy cities. Now the majority of site is taken up by playing fields and a primary school.
One of my particular favourite photographs at the moment is of a pier on the Venetian island of Lido just before a Heavy storm arrives. The original photograph just didn’t capture the impending doom of a rapidly approaching storm. The photograph had been on my to do list for long enough, and was well overdue editing .The image was edited in Adobe Photoshop with the Nik plugin Viveza 2 to emphasize darkness and structure in the clouds.
